What a desktop looks like when the assistant isn't an app you open — when it's the thing the windows, files and applications are arranged around.

The question

Every assistant so far has been bolted onto a desktop designed before it existed: a panel on the side, a hotkey, a window among windows. That is the shape of a retrofit. The interesting question is what you would build if you started from the assumption instead of adding it afterwards — what a file is, what a window is for, and how much of the interface still needs to exist.

The honest answer is that nobody knows yet, including us. This page will say something different when there is something to show.
