The second pane Finder never got.
A native Mac file browser with a window that behaves the way Finder's does, and an optional second pane beside it for the copying and comparing that Finder makes you open two windows for.

Where it stands
An early preview, handed to testers rather than posted publicly. The browsing window, both panes, all four views, tags, batch rename and folder sync work; the polish around them is what's left. Signed and notarized by Apple.
What it does
| Two panes | One window, two places, drag between them. The second pane is optional — with it closed you have an ordinary file browser. |
| Finder-faithful | The window, the columns, the keyboard behaviour and the selection model match Finder, because relearning a file browser is not a feature. |
| Finder does the work | Get Info, New Folder, Eject and Empty Trash are handed to Finder as Apple Events, so they behave exactly as they do in Finder. Move to Trash keeps Put Back, and every file operation can be undone. |
| Nothing invasive | Public APIs only. No code injected into Finder, no System Integrity Protection to turn off, nothing that breaks on the next macOS update. |
Why it exists
TotalFinder did this for years by injecting code into Finder, which is exactly why it stopped working. The useful half — a real second pane — doesn't need any of that. ForjFinder draws its own window and asks Finder to do the things Finder should still own.
